Tracking and analyzing user behavior on a Flash based application is no more such a cumbersome process – thanks to the exciting world of measurement and analysis possibilities that flash opens up. Tracking can be implemented in Flash based applications using ActionScript that communicates with JavaScript on the HTML shell (where flash application resides) for passing information.
For Implementing this, Flash uses:
1. JavaScript-based analytics platform.
2. Two components developed by Macromedia
- AnalyticsFacade
- getURLManager
AnalyticsFacade:
This class keeps a list of default variables names for the Flash application. This component parses the incoming values for these variables and hands the request over to the getURLManager.
getURLManager:
This component handles multiple getURL commands. The component creates a ActionScript-based queue and ensures that all getURL commands are handed over to the browser in the proper order.
This component in itself is very useful for applications implementing multiple getURL commands on a single frame. Without the getURLManager, multiple getURL commands would typically cannibalize one another, causing HTTP requests to be dropped.
