Chrome – First observations

I tried my hands on Chrome today and found it very satisfying. Here are my observations:

  1. Initial launch takes almost the same time as Firefox.
  2. Sleek interface. Gives the feel of a light weight browser. With no unnecessary buttons and text around, its clean and sleek.
  3. One of the most logical change is moving the address bar below the tab bar. This makes each tab look more self-contained and perfect from usability point.
  4. Each tab starts as a separate process. Which means, we can now be sure that if one of the tabs go for a toss due to a malfunctioning website, your other tabs are safe and the browser window won’t crash. But on the flip side, the overall memory consumption is a bit high compared to other browsers. Each tab process consumes its own share of memory.
  5. There seems to be some problem with the javascript rendering engine. I tried the Netbanking section on www.hdfcbank.com and the top navigation bar was not visible. While it showed perfectly on IE and Firefox, Chrome was not able to place it properly and went below the frame/iframe whatever.

However, the overall experience is good and hope to get an update from Google pretty soon.
